The Self-Balancing Electric Unicycle: Silly or Innovative?
Are you an electric vehicle-loving balance guru? Then you should get in line for Focus Design’s self-balancing unicycle (SBU). The unicycle can blaze down the street at 8.5 MPH, and can go for 12 miles on a single charge. At 25 pounds, it can easily be carried to a charging station.

This is silly. Anybody can spend some time and learn to ride a unicycle.

Wait a minute…the article directly states “…the company says that the SBU is about half as easy to ride as a regular unicycle.” Doesn’t half as easy mean the same thing as twice as hard? Because if it’s half of being easy then it isn’t fully easy is it? I don’t think I would even consider ever riding one of these, but it is a cool idea nonetheless, but I think the article needs to be re-worded a little.

This is exactly what I was wondering, mathematically 1/2 as easy does mean twice as hard, and most people would find a unicycle pretty hard to ride so how is this a selling point?

here’s an alternative: enicycle.com/images.html – it’s fuglier and it’s not in production. And if I’m not mistaken, the motor is in the wheel.

Both.. silly, its a damn unicyle!!! AND innovative… woah, it balances itself…

“the company says that the SBU is about half as easy to ride as a regular unicycle.” As someone already said, this is not making me want to buy one. I think the phrase they were looking for was “twice as easy,” but now that the mistake has been made, I’m afraid to trust my precious skull to their “sophisticated balancing algorithms.”To their credit, however, it was probably the author’s mistake. So I’m just being facetious.

I can see how it can do the front-to-back balancing by applying power to the wheel, but how can it help with the much harder side-to-side balancing? Don’t get it.
10.24.2008
someone not mechanically inclined would think it also balances side to side ,not really, just forwards and backwards.

Anyone seen riding this should be clotheslined…

I want to see the monkey try it first.
