Maybe they don’t advertise and just really on word of mouth.

Meh, Google is still king.
12.10.2008
Google is still my Jesus.
12.10.2008
So… who? Lemme know when they reach 10 million a second, like Google.

Kind of funny. You would expect Google to be the first to have an API like this for their search engine but here we are with Yahoo. There are a few services that Yahoo has done very well and it’s too bad the company in general seems to be in decline. Their News gets more visitors than CNN, and, while they were operating it, their subscription music service was hands-down the best compared to Napster/Real/Urge (I tried them all).

Thats because yahoo news is usually the start up page for most pc users by default if you have some form of internet service from them.
12.10.2008
Or AOL news or whomever else – people change it to whatever they want it these days, eh?

Good thing they have one, eh? code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/

And flickr is much, much better than picasa….
12.10.2008
Well, sorta. I use Picasa personally but for work, when looking for photos to use, I like how Flickr lets me find the CC licensed photos.
12.10.2008
Further, their license restrictions on using their mapping service and geocoding service are more better then Google too.

Jeeves has never informed me of this rival. Considering my butler has robbed me everyday for the past decade I think it might be time to kick his smelly butt out the door. But wait a minute…I’m supposed to be the Boss.
12.10.2008
I used to love asking Jeeves every once in a while instead of Google, just for the amusing fact that I was ASKING JEEVES. Now it’s just Ask. Where my Jeeves where my Jeeves where my Jeeves at?

A story to try to sway a sale, expect many more.
12.10.2008
Yeah, because whoever is looking into buying Yahoo doesn’t know about their assets and services unless Yahoo does a press release.

10mil a day? Who are all these people that don’t know about google?
12.10.2008
Nobody thought Microsoft could be toppled as the ‘king’, and to be honest, back in 1998, nobody thought Yahoo! could be brought down. It is going to happen again. Maybe not with this, but open-source search is definitely a step in the right direction. How many spam results have you gotten from Google lately? (I’ve gotten lots). Its time to change that.

where’s the month of November?
12.10.2008
Some of you are missing the point. This isn’t regular Yahoo, but their BOSS service.Even so, this is possibly one of the dullest things to his the front page. Even worse form Walmart stocking iphones.

Yahoo is the no 1 site on the net – Check out on Alexa!
12.10.2008
Google is the #1 site on Tehrab’s Super Legit List-O-Sites! A close second is my blog. After that the entire internet becomes a jumble of porn and Arduino project pages. In all seriousness, Alexa is crap.
12.10.2008
alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/ …46% visit yahoo mainly for email purpose (including me). kinda hard to change account once you set up one. alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/ …While 65% of google visitors come for the search engine.
12.10.2008
Yup, and my site gets 2500 unique hits per second. By my own calculations. >.>

I have no idea what this is, even after going to the website…
12.10.2008
It’s an API for reading data from Yahoo’s search index, I believe. And as far as I can tell from the comments pretty much no one else knew, either.

Hopefully its success pressures Google into a similar service.

To all the n00bs I see here: Yahoo BOSS is an API…not a search engine. It’s a way for a developer to use the Yahoo search result sets in their own applications, reordering and displaying them in any way they can imagine. It’s not a consumer product, it’s a tool to be used in the creation of other search services. Here is an example of a site utilizing BOSS: 4hoursearch.com/
