It’s an API for reading data from Yahoo’s search index, I believe.And as far as I can tell from the comments pretty much no one else knew, either.

To all the n00bs I see here: Yahoo BOSS is an API…not a search engine. It’s a way for a developer to use the Yahoo search result sets in their own applications, reordering and displaying them in any way they can imagine. It’s not a consumer product, it’s a tool to be used in the creation of other search services. Here is an example of a site utilizing BOSS: 4hoursearch.com/

Kind of funny. You would expect Google to be the first to have an API like this for their search engine but here we are with Yahoo. There are a few services that Yahoo has done very well and it’s too bad the company in general seems to be in decline. Their News gets more visitors than CNN, and, while they were operating it, their subscription music service was hands-down the best compared to Napster/Real/Urge (I tried them all).
