Facebook Beacon shines for last time as part of settlement
Facebook’s Beacon has been nothing but trouble since it launched in 2007, spurring numerous user complaints and a class-action privacy suit. The company has apparently learned its lesson, as it has now proposed a lawsuit settlement that involves shutting down Beacon and paying out $9.5 million to a settlement fund.

Read this as "Facebook Bacon" and thought "Finally, a bacon app!"

ToS does not excuse this. You can’t sign away your rights. If I run a popular site like PayPal and then change the ToS suddenly to say that I have the right to use your credit card, do you really think that would be okay because it’s in the terms?

Good. Now I can buy a copy of "Busty Cops" without having to worry about it being posted on my wall.

I don’t know how they could ever think this was a good idea.

But it’s still illegal, and still should never be done. The fact that credit card fraud is worse is irrelevant.

I guess it could be worse. "John’s wife just purchased a piano wire bone saw and a boxed DVD edition of Audition."Niiiiiiiiiiiice.

That’s why they’re being sued? And are settling?Maybe not criminal, but this definitely seems to prove that you’re in trouble if you do it.

No kidding, one less worry. It’s already such a pain trying to avoid clicking on those Share on Facebook popups/expanding boxes by accident when trying to watch videos. And by watch I mean fap to, and by videos I mean porn.

Android, it’s not illegal. You should try reading some time, it’s pretty awesome.

credit card fraud is a pretty serious crime, and what most "hackers" wind up getting jail time for. while i don’t like the idea my my personal info moving around without my knowledge, it’s not really even close to someone frauding with your credit card.

No..that would not be OK. that is not what Facebook Beacon was doing. Therefore it is a ridiculously stupid analogy.

Oh that!

I don’t even know what this is. I guess I should read the article?
