I vividly remember sitting in my cubicle at work, late in 1999, as a co-worker and I were throwing around ideas for websites. At one point he said – "how about this, you make a site, where people can upload pictures of themselves, and other people can come and vote on how attractive they are" – I said ‘that’s ***** terrible, who would want to subject themselves to that?’ and we both laughed.It was only a short while later that I was shown ‘hotornot’, we both cried.

Agreed. A site where people post content and you vote on whether the content is good or bad would have been a horrible site. I can’t imagine such a website model working in today’s market.
