Well, the trick is that the What?Gravity uses its puckered silicon back to create a vacuum from friction and, well, gravity itself to hold the phone in place! Clever! A phone remains safely attached to the holder, even when turned upside down (see the video!) Phone holders aren’t normally the most exciting of gadgets but this is definitely a neat little invention that adds a little bit of fun to your desk as well as being extremely convenient. The angle at which the phone is held means you can text and email easily and as there are no obstructions in the way of a basket or ledge you can even charge your phone as it sits suspended on your desk.

The phone holder is 170 x 67 mm with the puckered silicon back filling a space about the size of your average smart phone, leaving room at the bottom for a message or brand name. It is compatible with all phones and the silicon can be easily removed and cleaned with water, ensuring the longevity of the holder. Coming in silver, it is possible to have up to four colors included in the printing and the holder is also very easy to assemble, comprising of two parts that simply slide together.

But these two devices can do so much more if paired with the right accessories – just like there are apps that make them do all the stuff you want, so are there various hardware gadgets that extend the functionality even further. Here are just a few of the best:

Zero1 VooMote Zapper. This simple infrared transceiver can be attached to both the iPad and iPhone and it basically turns either of them into a remote for all your devices, from the TV to the air conditioner. All of the magic is done software-side, and it’s pretty cool being able to control most of your home electronics from your main personal device that is always with you.

GorillaMobile Tripod. If you’re often out and about or camping, or you just like to always be able to use your iPhone compfortably, this tripod from Joby is a perfect gadget for you. It can be used to position your iPhone in any way you want, on a variety of surfaces – it was originally meant for the iPhone’s camera, but people found out that you can use it as a steering wheel mount, surveillance camera (again, using the video recording feature), in-car GPS navigator mount, a comfortable holder for browsing the Web and video calls when you’re out and about, and more.

Bicio GoRide. If you’re a bike owner and want to be able to listen to music or even watch/read something while riding the bike, this accessory is a must have! the mount case is also removable, so if you need to go into a store, you can take it off and put it in your pocket, with the iPhone still being protected in case you drop it. The manufacturer also promises to launch an additional battery pack that would also keep the iPhone charged while you’re on the move, which would make it even more awesome!

DryCase Waterproof Case. This is the perfect accessory if you tend to be near water with your iPhone or are going on vacation on a sandy beach. The Dry Case is not only water-resistant – it can easily be submerged under several feet of water while still being functional. If you’re a swimmer and would like to swim with some good music in your ears, the optional waterproof headphones are also a must – with the 3.5 mm audio jack and touch screen being fully functional, it’d be a shame not to use them!

iPad Camera Connection Kit. The camera connection kit from Apple lets you connect your camera directly to your iPad or use its SD card to view, edit and download any photos and videos you might want. It’s an excellent tool that lets you bypass your computer if you just went to an event and want to upload the photos on Facebook or simply see what shots you got.

There are dozens of other great gadgets around for an iPhone or iPad – just hop on to Google if you want to find them. In my opinion, the above 5 are really cool and useful, to boot. You should definitely check them out when you get the chance.

Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750. Having a wireless keyboard can be really useful when you need to type a lot of text and want to do it more comfortably, whether you’re at your desktop computer or working on a laptop. But while the old school connection problems were solved years ago, one problem remained: the battery life. You have to charge your keyboard or change the batteries pretty darn often if you type a lot, but thankfully Logitech has solved the problem with their K750 wireless keyboard – it’s solar powered and seeing as there’s light everywhere during the day, you’ll most probably never have to think about the batteries ever again.

Cobra Tag. If you’re the kind of person who loses stuff often or are always afraid that you might, the Cobra tag is for you. It is a simple and small accessory that can be paired via Bluetooth to your phone, which is always with you, and if it goes out of range, it will notify you and start beeping until you find your wallet, keys or whatever it is that you attached the tag to. Pretty easy and convenient!

LG RoboKing Triple Eye. LG’s latest invention is a robot vacuum that can learn the outline of your house or apartment by itself, accepts voice commands and cleans up everything nicely and quietly (at only 48 dB) while you’re at home or away. Oh, it can also transmit video to any Wifi enabled device, so you can potentially use it as a home guardian/spy as well, if that’s your thing .

Scosche RDTX-PRO. I admit, with all the bad news about nuclear power stations and accidents around me, I get a bit nervous when I think that I might be affected by radiation and will never even know it until it’s too late. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a good radiation detector anywhere, either, but Scosche seems to have taken care of that with their RDTC-PRO – an accessory that connects to my iPhone or iPad and can detect radiation above 60 KeV with a 5% accuracy – enough to know whether I should move to a different city.

Babble Voice Privacy. If you’re in competitive business or you just don’t want your coworkers to eavesdrop on your phone conversations, the Babble Voice Privacy is for you. The concept is simple: the gadget has two speakers and a base device that play a white noise or pre-recorded track of your choosing in the direction of your door/window, so nobody can clearly hear what you’re saying, even if you’re talking quite loudly.

But what do you do when you get a tablet? If you just use it as it is, you’re definitely not getting the best experience. For that, you’ll need to get a few third party accessories that will make your tablet seem like the only computer you’ll ever need. Here is a short list of things you should check out:

Protection covers/skins. All devices are prone to scratches and dents, but tablets are especially so, with their big glass covered screens that can scratch the first time you unintentionally slide them on the table. In those cases, a protection skin would save the device and also keep it in like new condition for as long as you use it. There are a lot of these skins and shields around, but the best ones for the screen are Zagg’s InvisibleShield, and if you want something beautiful on the back that will also protect your investment from scratches, either Zagg skins or Gelaskins is the way to go.

Bluetooth wireless keyboards. The on screen keyboard of a tablet is pretty good for taking quick notes and even typing longer documents, but nothing comes close to an actual hardware keyboard. Thankfully, there are quite a few great Bluetooth keyboards around that you can easily pair with your iPad or Android tablet (or Blackberry Playbook if you own one), including the very nice Apple Bluetooth keyboard, which will provide superior experience to anyone who needs to type on the go.

Leather Case Folios. If you always carry your tablet with you, perhaps you should consider a leather case for it. Not only will it protect the device from scratches, but also make it look more professional and sophisticated. There are even leather cases with integrated keyboards (for the iPad, mostly), which are perfect for heavy duty work when traveling.

Desk stands. If you use your tablet as an everyday computer, having a desk stand can significantly improve your experience. You can use one to set the tablet on a desk or anywhere else to be used as a display, TV (streaming from the Web, of course) or clock with alarm. One of the best desk stands is the Breffo Spiderpodium, which will not only hold your tablet extremely well, but also looks pretty cool. If you want something less conspicuous or scary for those with arachnophobia , you can go with the Arkon Fold Up stand or the very nice Satechi R1 – both wonderful stands on their own.

Car mounts. A tablet is a great multimedia device, and most current models also come with an integrated GPS transceiver, and if you want to use it in your car for long trips to watch movies, listen to your music collection or use it as a navigator (a 10 inch tablet looks simply awesome as one), you’ll need a good car mount. There are a lot of these around, and you’ll have to choose one that fits perfectly in your car. You can also get an audio cable to connect to your car stereo, if it has the ability, to listen to your music collection when you’re driving.

A laptop can already do everything a desktop computer can, but there are a lot of accessories and gadgets that can easily extend that functionality even further. Here are a few of the most interesting ones:

mSata SSD drive. Solid State Drives (abbreviated from SSD) are the fastest and quietest computer storage drives on the market, far superior to the usual mechanical hard drives. But the main problem with them is that they’re too expensive: you’ll have to shell out about $200 for a 128 GB drive (there are cheaper options, but they are not as fast and have a bad habit of failing unexpectedly). Fortunately, you only need a 30-60 GB system drive to have a much faster system. And you can find quite a few mSata SSD drives that fit into a computers Mini PCI Express slot, which has a SATA interface built in, allowing users to install an SSD to be used as a system drive along with the big hard drive for all the data. It’s the perfect solution for the best price/performance ratio, however you’ll need a laptop with 2 mPCI-E slots (most netbooks and newer laptops have that).

Optical disk drive caddy. If you don’t have a free mSata slot or want to have as much storage space as possible, an optical disk drive caddy is the perfect solution. They basically replace your optical drive with a hard drive enclosure, in which you can insert any drive, whether it’s a 750 GB Western Digital hard drive or a fast Samsung SSD. Of course, you’ll have to give up the optical drive, but you can easily turn it into an external drive using a cheap USB enclosure, and the problem is solved!

USB or Mini PCI Express modem. If you’re traveling and working from your laptop, you’ll undoubtedly need a 3G modem for wherever you go. Sure you can use your smartphone as a modem, but it will heat up and use your battery a lot, which you don’t need (plus tethering is not free in a lot of countries). There are a lot of USB modems that work globally on EVDO and HSPA networks, however a more interesting solution are internal Mini PCI Express, like the Option GTM679, which replace your Wifi adapter with an adapter that has both Wifi and a 3G modem that works all over the world. If you have a second mPCIe slot, you can opt for a cheaper 3G only card, as well.

Portable and mini projectors. A projector is a very useful tool for presentations, and while some places already have one installed, a lot of times you won’t have access to one and will have to use your laptop’s screen or if you’re lucky, an external display that’s slightly bigger and has better viewing angles. Unless you get a portable projector, that is. You can get a good portable projector that will show a 100 inches or more image and weighs 2 kg, but that’s only if you need it for some serious presentations. If you just need it to demonstrate something to small groups of people (5-10), something like the Dell M109S may be a better choice – it can project a 60 inch image and fits in the palm of your hand – perfect for frequent travel.

Wireless mouse. While modern touch pads do everything a mouse can and even more, they just can’t replace them at really intensive tasks like photo editing or 3D object manipulation. Even working with a lot of documents is faster with a real mouse under your hand. Having a wireless mouse always with you is great, and there are a lot of them to choose from, with different sizes and functionality, from simple cheap devices to huge monsters for gamers.

Aside from the above accessories, you also have the more mundane extended batteries and power packs, notebook coolers, backpacks and other useful things. You can find a lot of other great gadgets online, but I believe you should definitely take a look at the above ones first.

But your phone is not only a great device on its own – there are a lot of gadgets that can extend its functionality by quite a large degree and make it better and more universal than you ever thought possible. Here are just a few of those accessories:

Zagg InvisibleShield. The first thing you have to do when getting any smartphone is getting a protection film for your display. No matter how tough the manufacturers claim Gorilla Glass is, it does scratch – in fact, a tiny spec of sand will do quite some damage. A screen shield is the best way to go, but you don’t want to get a cheap and think film that will make your screen opaque and mess with the digitizer. You need to get the best, and Zagg’s InvisibleShield is it. It’s a very thin film that can protect your screen from any scratches, and if you do get a big one, you can just remove the film and install a new one! Not only that, but it can also make existing small scratches invisible in ordinary use – perfect for used smartphones, as well.

Nokia BH-503. Whether you like listening to music on the go or just like listening to music, a pair of good Bluetooth headphones is a must have. The freedom of movement you get without a wire is phenomenal – you’ll never want to use ordinary headphones again (except maybe the super expensive ones). Nokia’s BH-503 is one of the best headsets out there – it has a great sound quality and battery life, sits well on your ears and costs very little compared to the competition. Plus, they play really nice with Android – there are no problems with the pairing process and the controls all work as they should.

Freedom Pro Bluetooth Keyboard. You probably already know that Android can open the various document formats that are in use nowadays, with the help of third party apps, of course, but if you ever actually tried to edit them, you no doubt found out that it’s harder than it seemed, especially for larger files with a lot of formatting. And the touch screen is not the problem – what you need is a real external keyboard. Freedom Pro is one of the most recommended keyboards: it works perfectly with Android, the typing is comfortable and the foldable design makes it very portable – it’s the perfect companion to your smartphone if you’re traveling light and need to work on the go.

Motorola Universal Power Pack. Most modern Android smartphones run out of battery power after about 6-8 hours of continuous work, 10 if you’re lucky or keep the brightness to a minimum and the processor underclocked (and optionally undervolted). If you’re traveling even for a short while, you simply have to carry the charger, which is quite bulky in most cases, and a lot of the times, you won’t have the opportunity or the time to charge your phone, anyway. That’s when Motorola’s own Universal Power Pack comes into play – it will provide your phone with an additional 7-10 hours’ worth of power, just enough to let you work worry free.

Naztech N15 portable mini speakers. If you want to share your music with everyone around you or are somewhere on the beach without a music player, this nifty gadget can help you, along with your smartphone of course. Just plug them in to your 3.5 mm jack and play all the music you want at a reasonably loud volume. Not only that, but the device also has a micro SD card slot that lets you play any music from an external card if you like.

There’s an accessory for everyone when it comes to smartphones, from audiophiles to those who need to type or edit documents on the go or upload scripts to their remote server. A quick search on Google will give you dozens of results, but I suggest you start with the above gadgets and work your way from there.

It has been reported some time ago that Mad Catz won the exclusive rights to produce Xbox 360 wireless headphones. Now it appears that the company is ready to unveil its new Mad Catz Warhead 7.1 wireless headset, according to a report by IGN.

With the new device, gamers do not need to be tethered to their controllers for voice chat or plugged into a wall to be charged. The device will get everything it needs from a base station connected to the console.

String USB and optical cables directly from the console to the device, and gamers will get enough 5.8GHz bandwidth, which will deliver virtual Dolby surround sound to four pairs of headphones at once. Users will also get Xbox LIVE audio chat thanks to some native support from Microsoft.

Gamers will also find an on-screen battery readout, and once the device runs out of power, a second swappable battery pack is waiting in the base station’s charger.

According to unofficial information from IGN it is expected that the Warhead 7.1 wireless headset will retail at an amount just under $300, when it is released this holiday in the United States.
