e-Books Now Sells More than Print Editions on Amazon

Amazon said in a statement yesterday that e-Books are now officially outselling print editions. Since April 1, 2011 the company sold 105 e-Books for every 100 hardcover and paperback books. The statistics include books without Kindle versions and exclude free e-Books.

Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, said that the company expected this to happen at some time, but never thought it would happen this fast. He added that the company sold print books for 15 years and Kindle books for less than 4 years.

Amazon also announced that its newly launched Kindle, at a price of $114, is its best selling Kindle to date. The new device is currently outselling all previous versions of the Kindle e-Reader.

As per company policy, Amazon did not reveal exact sales statistics.
