Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer confirmed that the company’s next generation operating system will be released in 2012, and, for the first time referred to the software as Windows 8.
Ballmer addressed attendees at a developers’ conference in Tokyo and confirmed that the new operating system will be available for PCs, tablets and slates.
To date, there were many rumors that Microsoft has started working on the new operating system, but the company refused any comments and refrained from referring to the software as Windows 8. We now at least have confirmation that the software will be available in 2012 and that it will be called Windows 8.
Ballmer confirmed that they are hard at work on the new operating system. He added that we could expect to a hear a lot more about Windows 8 slates, tablet and PCs in a variety of different form factors.
