The first talking android launched into space from the Japanese Space Center heading to the International Space Station today. Kirobo’s mission is to act as android companion (chatting and emotional) to astronaut Koichi Wakata. Actually, Kirobo has a mission role as well – android may relay some mission related messages from control room astronaut. Kirobo will not be the only android on ISS. The twin-robot Mirata is also on-board to watch-out any possible problems with Kirobo.
This is the first step in mission, which Kirobo Project describes like: “Hope for the future of humans living together with robots” and it seems that the Robotic astronauts mission is just a first step in study of interactions between humans and robots.
