PXW-Z100 – new professional camcorder from Sony with 4K capabilities

Sony has been always ahead of its competitors when it comes to camcorders. Once again Sony expanded its technology line of products with the new camcorder – PXW-Z100 4K handheld XDCAM.

Even if you are shooting 4K images, the new Sony PXW-Z100 will provide very high sensitivity due to its back-illuminated CMOS sensor (Exmor® R) and will capture with its 1/2-3-inch sensor 4K images at 50p or 60p with more than 8.8 million effective pixels. If you have a 4K-compatible Sony BRAVIA TV, you can output 4K as a 50fps/60fps signal with this new camcorder via HDMI port.

Takahiro Kagawa, the Sony Electronics Product Manager said:

“This new camcorder brings high-performance 4K capabilities to the entry-level of our 4K line. It’s perfect as a standalone content creation tool or as a complement to our large sensor, higher-end 4K cameras. Corporate and event producers can now deliver 4K images for a growing number of applications including large venue 4K projection and 4K monitors. Professionals now have access to the widest palette of 4K tools to tell their stories more effectively and creatively.”

Sony PXW-Z100 has multiple features of modern high-end device, including possibility to control settings like focus, zoom, aperture and “record start/stop” remotely with just using the browser function of a tablet PC or smartphone. You just need to connect camcorder with supplied WiFi adapter and it will be reachable over the wireless network.

The 4K camcorder is planned to be on the market by the end of 2013 at a price less than $6,500.
