A new software update for Apple TV is currently available. The update is compatible with old and new models alike, particularly second-generation and third-generation Apple TVs. The latest software version brings iOS 5.1.1 to the table along with Netflix, AirPlay, Home Sharing, and several other apps. It also features full HD previews for TV shows and movies at the Store.
You can upgrade your Apple TV to version 5.0.1 (9B206f) in two ways. The easiest way would be to follow the simple steps:
1. Go to Settings on the top right
2. Click “General”
3. Scroll down and select “Update Software”
Once the download is complete, your Apple TV will upgrade itself and reboot to a new software. There’s no need to hurry for this upgrade since most changes are merely on apps and user interface.
Days ago, Apple also released a software update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch which upgrades them to iOS 5.1.1. Unlike the update available for Apple TV, it mostly contains “improvements and bug fixes.” But because it also fixes a Safari security glitch that permitted malicious websites to spoof URLs, we recommend that you get it right away.
