When we talk about rugged cameras, usually it means you will need to sacrifice the quality of the images. All previous models from different vendors have a nice camera bodies, really rugged, but produce average quality photo images.
Nikon with its first mirrorless rugged 1 AW1 camera (not the first underwater camera), which is part of 1 system and has a 1-inch image sensor aims to bring more quality to underwater photography.
The Nikon 1 AW1 rugged camera is not only waterproof, but shock and dustproof as well, and coming with 2 shock and waterproof lenses.
The camera can produce photo images and videos in 49 feet (15 meters) under water, can work in pretty low temperatures 14°F (-10°C) , and can survive drops from 6.6 feet (2 meters). Pretty impressive i’d say!
Nikon’s rugged device has a built-in GPS, with ability to produce Geo-tagged photos, electronic compass, altimeter, depth gauge, and a virtual horizon. There is no Wi-Fi connectivity, but if you need to transfer files to your Android or iOS device, you can use WU-1b adapter.
The rugged Nikon comes in three colors: black, silver and white, and will be released on October 10, 2013.
